I finally tried the new Indigo branch in Thong Sala while waiting for a ferry β€” worth the detour

Sam, island regular since 2019

I've been coming to Phangan regularly since 2019, and my Thong Sala ferry-wait routine has always been the same: sit at the pier, maybe grab a bag of something from 7-Eleven, stare at my phone. This time I actually had two hours to burn instead of the usual rushed twenty minutes, so I wandered a few minutes into town instead. Genuinely glad I did. β˜•

What I found

Indigo Specialty Coffee & Bakery's original spot is out in Hin Kong, but they've opened a second branch right in Thong Sala now β€” easy walking distance from the pier if you've got any real time before your ferry. Tropical decor, a lot of indigo blue (unsurprisingly), and it didn't feel like a rushed transit-town cafe at all β€” proper seating, plugs at most tables, an upstairs area that's basically a quiet little coworking nook.

What I actually ordered

Flat white and a slice of something from the bakery case I didn't catch the name of β€” good coffee, properly made, not the syrupy stuff you sometimes get at tourist-strip cafes. They also do a full food menu β€” pasta, pizza, gelato, a solid vegan selection β€” so this isn't just a coffee stop if you're hungrier than that.

Would I go back

Yes, easily β€” and I probably will next time I've got a gap before a ferry instead of defaulting to the pier bench. If you're killing time in Thong Sala for any reason (ferry, errands, waiting on a Grab), it's a genuinely better way to spend that time than most of what's immediately at the pier itself.
