Koh Phangan has a tropical climate with two real seasons — dry and wet — rather than four. Rain doesn't mean the trip is ruined: even in the rainiest months, showers are usually short and heavy rather than constant, and mornings are often clear.
Dry season (December–April)
This is high season for a reason. Seas are calmer, humidity is lower, and you can reliably plan boat trips, diving and waterfall visits. December and January are the most popular (and most booked-out) months. March–May gets progressively hotter and more humid as the rains approach.
Rainy season (May–November)
Contrary to what people expect, this isn't a washout. Rain usually arrives in bursts — an hour of heavy downpour, then clear skies again. September and October are the wettest, with occasional flash flooding on low-lying roads. Prices drop noticeably in this period and the island is much quieter.
