About Shiva Moon
Ask any long-term Koh Phangan resident what their favourite party is and many will say Shiva Moon — not the Full Moon Party, not Half Moon. This free weekly gathering in Srithanu village on the west coast has been running for decades and remains one of the most authentic experiences on the island.
It begins at sunset (around 17:30–18:00) with live drumming — djembe, bongo, handpan — and evolves organically through the evening as more musicians join. The crowd is mixed: island residents, yogis, long-stay travellers, families, locals. No tickets, no wristbands, no corporate production. Just people, music and the sunset.
The Setting
Srithanu sits on the west coast — facing directly into the sunset over the Gulf of Thailand. The gathering happens near the beach, with the sky turning extraordinary colours as the drumming reaches its peak. It's the most photographed sunset spot on the island for a reason.
After dark the music continues — shifting from acoustic drums to DJs playing ethnic, tribal, world music and psychedelic sounds. The vibe is communal and inclusive rather than exclusive.

Getting to Srithanu
Srithanu is on the west coast, about 10–15 minutes from Thong Sala by bike heading north. Follow the road along the coast — you'll see the crowd gathering at the beach-side spots. Songthaew runs from Thong Sala.
