How Many Days Do You Need on Koh Phangan?
Honest itineraries for 3, 5, and 7+ days
The honest answer to "how many days do I need" is: more than you think, less than you're worrying about. Most people who come for 3 days end up wishing they'd booked 5. Almost nobody who books a week regrets it. Here's how to actually spend the time, whatever you've got.
3 days — hits the highlights, no room to slow down
- Day 1: Arrive, settle in, sunset at one of the west-coast sunset spots near Srithanu or Haad Yao
- Day 2: Bike day — Phaeng Waterfall in the morning, Khao Ra viewpoint for the island's best view in the afternoon
- Day 3: Beach day at Haad Yuan or Bottle Beach, then travel out
This works, but it's tight — you'll feel like you're checking boxes rather than actually relaxing, which is a bit against the point of an island like this.
5 days — the sweet spot most people are happiest with
- Days 1–2: Same as above, but slower — no need to rush the viewpoint-and-waterfall day into one afternoon
- Day 3: A proper beach day with nothing else planned — Malibu Beach or Than Sadet if you want it quieter
- Day 4: Dive or snorkel trip out to Sail Rock (see our water activities guide), or a half day working from a Srithanu cafe if that's your trip
- Day 5: Whatever you missed — Chaloklum village for sunset drinks, or just another beach
Five days is genuinely enough to see the island without feeling rushed, and enough downtime that you actually decompress rather than just sightsee.
7+ days — you start living at island pace, not tourist pace
A week or more is when Phangan actually starts working the way it's meant to. You stop planning every day, start recognising the guy at your usual coffee spot, and can afford a rained-out day without it wrecking your trip. It's also the only realistic way to catch a Full Moon Party and a quieter stretch either side of it, rather than building your whole visit around one night.
