Visa-free entry

Thailand offers visa-free entry to citizens of many countries. Most European, American, Australian and other Western nationalities can stay for up to 60 days without a visa. After 60 days you can visit the immigration office for a 30-day extension (1,900 baht) or do a visa run.

Always double-check the current rules for your specific nationality as they can change.

Visa run from Phangan

A visa run is a short trip out of Thailand to reset your visa-free period. Standard route from Phangan:

  1. Ferry Phangan → Surat Thani
  2. Bus to the Malaysian border (Sadao, Ban Padan)
  3. Cross the border and come back
  4. Return to Phangan

The trip takes 2–3 days and costs around 2,500–4,000 baht.

Extending your stay on Phangan

The immigration office is in Thong Sala, near the bus station. Arrive early as there are queues. You will need: passport, 4×6 photo (2 pcs), completed TM.7 form, 1,900 baht.
