Boonsiri's van + catamaran combo from Surat Thani Airport — five months in, how it's actually going
·Phangan Guide

Back in February, Boonsiri launched a combined van + high-speed catamaran service running straight from Surat Thani Airport (and the train station, and the city) to Koh Phangan — one ticket, one booking, no standing around a random parking lot trying to figure out which minivan is yours. Five months in, enough people have actually used it that we can give you the honest picture rather than just repeating the press release.

How it actually works

You land at Surat Thani Airport (or get off the train, or start from the city), and instead of separately arranging a taxi to the pier and then a ferry ticket, it's one connected booking: air-conditioned van to the pier, then straight onto the catamaran to Koh Phangan. Total journey time is commonly under 2.5 hours door to door with a decent connection.

What people are actually saying

The consistent theme is relief at not having to figure out logistics after a long flight — you land, someone's holding a sign with your name, and the next time you have to think is when you're getting off the boat in Thong Sala. For a first-time visitor jetlagged off an international connection, that's worth something.

Worth knowing before you book

  • Book ahead in high season (Nov–Jan) — the combined tickets sell out on the same popular sailings as everything else
  • It's not necessarily cheaper than booking van and ferry separately, but it removes a genuine failure point (missing a connection, or overpaying a random taxi outside arrivals)
  • Other operators (Lomprayah, Seatran, Raja) still run their own Surat Thani combo tickets too — Boonsiri isn't the only option, just a newer one
  • Weather can still cancel or delay the catamaran leg in rough season, same as any ferry — the "seamless" part is the booking, not immunity from the Gulf of Thailand
