Koh Samui named a top island in Asia-Pacific — good news for the whole Gulf, Phangan included

Not a Phangan headline directly, but relevant enough to mention: Koh Samui — the island most people transit through to reach us — was ranked among the top islands in Asia-Pacific in the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards 2026. A Thai government spokesperson said the recognition reflects strong destination management and Samui's ability to welcome international visitors at a world-class standard while keeping its natural surroundings intact.
Why it's worth mentioning here
Samui, Phangan and Koh Tao share the same ferry network, a lot of the same visitor flow, and increasingly, the same regional tourism push from Surat Thani province. A high-profile award for Samui tends to mean more attention, more flights, and more marketing dollars pointed at this whole corner of the Gulf of Thailand — which is generally a good thing for Phangan's own visitor numbers too, even if we're not the one holding the trophy.
