Why Villas on Phangan?

Koh Phangan offers some of the best value luxury villas in Southeast Asia. The same villa that would cost $500/night in Bali or on Koh Samui often rents for half the price here — with similar stunning views, private pools and tropical gardens. The island has grown dramatically in quality while remaining under the radar compared to its neighbours.

Types of Villa

Clifftop Villas

The most spectacular option — perched on hillsides in Srithanu, Haad Yao and the north coast, these often have infinity pools with sweeping sea views. Morning mist in the valleys, sunsets from the terrace, jungle sounds at night. Expect to pay 50,000–100,000+ baht/month for the best.

Beachfront Villas & Bungalows

Direct beachfront is harder to find and commands a premium. Secret Place (Thong Sala area) and some properties on Haad Yao offer genuine beachfront access. Also check Thong Nai Pan on the east coast for beautiful beach houses.

Garden Villas with Private Pools

The most common type — lush gardens, private pool, 2–4 bedrooms, modern kitchen. Found across the island, especially in Ban Tai, Srithanu and Haad Yao. Excellent value for groups or families: a 3-bedroom villa with pool for 40,000–60,000 baht/month shared between friends works out cheaper than a mid-range hotel.

Best Areas for Villas

  • Srithanu / Hin Kong — hillside villas with sunset views, close to yoga community and organic cafes. The most popular expat area.
  • Haad Yao — west coast, good beach access, peaceful, beautiful sunset views
  • Mae Haad — quiet north-west, mangroves, some of the island's most beautiful properties
  • Ban Tai — central, flat, easy access to Thong Sala, more affordable
  • Thong Nai Pan — remote east coast, stunning bays, truly away from it all

How to Find a Villa

  • Airbnb — good selection, instant booking, but 10–15% more expensive than direct
  • Facebook groups — "Koh Phangan Housing" has hundreds of direct listings from owners
  • Walking around — many villa owners put "For Rent" signs outside; walking or riding through your preferred area often turns up unlisted gems
