The heart of Chaloklum village
Right in the middle of Chaloklum, Wat Chaloklum was built more than a century ago by the local families who founded the village around fishing — it's as much a community anchor as a place of worship, reflecting the devotion of a village that historically depended entirely on the sea for its living.
What it looks like
A blend of traditional Thai and more modern architectural touches — ornate buildings, intricately carved statues, colourful murals depicting Buddhist stories, a golden Buddha statue, and a tall chedi that catches the light against the hills and coastline behind it.
The annual festival
Late February into early March, the temple hosts its yearly festival — worth timing a visit around if you're on the island during that window and want to see the temple genuinely active with the community, not just as a quiet stop.
Combining with a trip out north
Chaloklum is also where the wakeboarding operator is based and where the Sunday Walking Street market happens — easy to fold a temple visit into either trip rather than making it a separate outing.
