About Haad Salad

Haad Salad is a small, sheltered bay in the north-west of Koh Phangan. It doesn't get the attention of Haad Rin or Haad Yao, which is honestly one of its best features — quiet, beautiful, and largely undiscovered by the party-tourist crowd.

The bay curves gently around clear turquoise water with a coral reef beginning just metres from the beach. You can snorkel here without even taking a boat — just walk in from the sand. That's genuinely rare on the island.

Snorkelling & Diving

The reef at Haad Salad has healthy coral and plenty of reef fish — parrotfish, triggerfish, the occasional sea turtle. Best snorkelling is at the northern end of the bay where the reef comes closest to the surface. Visibility is usually excellent — 10–15 metres on good days.

There's a small dive school operating here with daily dive trips for PADI certification and fun dives. If you want to learn to dive, Haad Salad is a great spot — calmer conditions than the open-water sites near Koh Tao.

Getting There

By bike from Thong Sala, head north through Ban Chalok Lam and follow the road around to the north-west coast. Haad Salad is signed. About 25–30 minutes by bike on good roads — no steep mountain passes.

What to Expect

  • A small collection of bungalow guesthouses and dive shops along the beach road
  • A couple of low-key beach cafes
  • Calm water most of the year — north-east coast takes the wind, not this side
  • Almost no nightlife — this is a daytime beach

When to Visit

Haad Salad is good year-round, though the snorkelling is best from December to May when visibility peaks. During the October–November monsoon period, the water can get choppy and visibility drops — better to visit Haad Yao or the west coast in that period.
