Srithanu Beach

About Srithanu
Srithanu is where Koh Phangan's soul lives. If you're looking for the island beyond the Full Moon Party — the yoga retreats, the organic cafes, the expat community, the genuine Thai village life mixed with international nomads — this is the place.
The "beach" here is actually a rocky shore rather than sandy — the stones are smooth and the water between them is crystal clear. It's less swimming-friendly than Haad Yao but uniquely beautiful, especially at sunset when the west-facing coast turns golden.
The Sunset & Shiva Moon
Every Sunday evening, the famous Shiva Moon gathering happens near the beach — live drums, ethnic music, community dancing, spectacular sunset. It's free, open to everyone, and genuinely one of the best things on the island. The drumming starts around 17:00 and goes until 22:00 or so.
Even on non-Sunday evenings, Srithanu's west-facing position means you'll often find informal gatherings at the beach bars watching the sunset. This is one of the best spots on the island to watch the sky go orange and red over the Gulf of Thailand.
Yoga, Wellness & Community
Srithanu has more yoga studios per square kilometre than almost anywhere in Southeast Asia. Centres like Agama Yoga, Yoga Mountain and Wonderland are based here. If you're interested in a yoga retreat, meditation, raw food, ayurveda, or any form of wellness — you'll find it here.
The expat community is large and active, with regular markets, community events, and a strong word-of-mouth culture. Facebook groups like "Koh Phangan Community" are full of Srithanu residents organising things.
Food & Cafes
Some of the best cafes on the island are in Srithanu. Veganism, raw food, organic everything — the options are genuinely excellent: Pure Vegan Heaven (fully vegan, built from bamboo), Karma Kafe and Art of Juice right next to each other on the main road, and Evolution Yogi Cafe for big loaded food bowls. Smoothie bowls, cold-pressed juices, and plant-based meals are easy to find at very reasonable prices.
Getting There
10–15 minutes north of Thong Sala by bike, following the coast road. Easy, flat ride. Songthaew from Thong Sala also runs this route for around 50–80 baht.
