Than Prawet Waterfall

Than Prawet is the waterfall to pick if Than Sadet and Phaeng feel too easy or too busy. It sits on the northeast side of the island near Thong Nai Pan, and getting there takes actual effort — the trail isn't as clearly marked as the island's main falls, and you'll likely have it entirely to yourself.

Getting there

Start from Thong Nai Pan Noi beach or the main road above the bay — ask locally for the current trailhead, since signage is minimal and can change. Expect a genuine hike through jungle rather than a stroll from a car park. This isn't the waterfall to attempt in flip-flops or if you're short on time.

What to expect

A smaller, wilder waterfall stream than the island's headline falls — less about a dramatic single drop, more about the jungle hike itself and the reward of a genuinely quiet spot at the end of it. Bring a friend rather than going alone; the trail isn't heavily trafficked enough to count on running into other people if something goes wrong.

• Not well signposted — ask at your accommodation in Thong Nai Pan for current directions before setting out
• Wear proper footwear, not sandals — the trail is uneven jungle terrain
• Go with someone else if possible, and tell someone your plan
• Like the island's other falls, it's seasonal — rainy season (June–November) is when there's actually water
