What VOA is for

Visa on Arrival exists for travellers whose nationality isn't covered by Thailand's visa-exemption list but who only need a short visit — instead of applying at an embassy in advance, you fill out a form and pay a fee at the immigration checkpoint the moment you land.

What changed in May 2026

This is the important bit if you're researching VOA from an older article: since the May 2026 reform, Visa on Arrival covers just four nationalities — India, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia. If your passport isn't one of those four, VOA is not an option for you anymore, even if an older guide says otherwise. Check whether your nationality instead falls under visa exemption or needs a proper Tourist Visa (TR) applied for in advance.

The practical details

15 days, no extension available — if you need longer, you have to leave and re-enter, or arrange a different visa type before you travel. Bring a passport valid 6+ months, a return/onward ticket, and proof of funds, same as any arrival-visa scheme.
